The President of the European Council supports the program of democratic transformations in New Uzbekistan

Yesterday, a telephone conversation took place between the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of the European Council Charles Michel, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.

According to the press service of the Head of our state, issues of further expansion of Uzbekistan – European multifaceted and mutually beneficial cooperation were considered.

The President of Uzbekistan expressed sincere gratitude for the all-round assistance provided in carrying out irreversible democratic and socio-economic transformations in New Uzbekistan.

In turn, the President of the European Council spoke in support of Uzbekistan’s efforts to continue the course of open reforms in the country aimed at building a strong civil society and a rule of law.

In this context, the inadmissibility of destabilization of the situation in Karakalpakstan by certain destructive forces was emphasized. Charles Michel asked to convey his condolences to the families and relatives of those killed as a result of the riots organized by criminal elements.

During the conversation, special attention was paid to the issue of finalizing the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Uzbekistan and the EU.

The importance of increasing mutual trade and investment, using the advantages of the Generalised System of Preferences Plus, was emphasized.

The parties discussed the issues of promoting specific programs and projects of practical cooperation, primarily in the green economy, digitalization, innovation, logistics, agriculture, ecology, education and healthcare.

Views were exchanged on the current situation in the Central Asian region, and further raising the level of multilateral dialogue with the EU.

The organization of major international events in Uzbekistan aimed at strengthening connectivity, as well as ensuring security and stability in the region, including promoting the establishment of lasting peace and providing all possible assistance to the people of Afghanistan, was supported.
